Wait till your Dad gets home!

"Just wait till your Dad gets home!"

This was usually followed by a "No, No, NOOOO!!! I'm so sorry, I'll never do it again," from me. I knew that I had truly messed up and when dad got home, I was getting the belt.

My brother was a little smarter when it came to spankings (at least he thought). He would hide the paddle/ belts. He thought if mom couldn't find them, he would get out of his spanking. Little did he know mom's can turn anything into a paddle. Flip-flop, wooden spoon, back scratcher... etc.

Obviously, I came from a "spanking family". Don't get me wrong, this wasn't an everyday or every situation occurrence. We had to put our nose in the corner plenty of times too. (Yes, nose actually touching the corner.)

All of this being said, I ran across a new study online today:

In the Journal of Family Psychology, researchers recorded audio of families soon after they returned home from work and daycare and discovered that spanking is fairly common.

Out of 33 families, the researchers discovered 41 incidents of spanking or hitting children in 15 different families over a six-night period.  The study also found that the whacks didn't seem to resolve problems. Despite being spanked, about 75 percent of the children were misbehaving again within 10 minutes of the incidents.

The study suggests that hitting kids is not an effective way to teach them or promote parent-child relationships.

This is obviously just one study out there. I know many parents have to have the conversation and face the decision to spank or not to. My side, I'm for it. It worked for me, I learned consequences for my actions. Let's just say to this day (creeping into 30s), I don't even have a speeding ticket to my name because I'm afraid my mom will say, "Just wait till your dad hears about this!"

Wine = Healthy= Happy

As if I really needed a reason to drink wine, but here's one anyway.

We've all heard that wine is good for your heart, but how about this; Wine is good for your Kidneys too!

According to Dr. Tapan Mehta at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center, you could be doing your kidneys a favor by drinking wine in moderation, that is, about one five-ounce glass per day.

Following a review of 6,000 people over a four-year period, with 1,000 diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, Mehta says that those who drank one glass of either red or white wine daily had a 37 percent less risk of developing the condition than non-wine drinkers.

I'm all about being healthy! Cheers to Heart and Kidney Health :)

Looking for a Graduation or Mother's Day gift?

This is perfect!

It's the Chic Buds Porta Party! It's Fun Size and you wouldn't believe how loud it gets.

It's wireless and you can get up to 10 hours of play on it. You just need to hook it up to your Bluetooth and play from your iPod playlist. Brave Dave was pretty fascinated by it when he heard how loud it was. Obviously, he wants a camouflage one.

I love it because it's not bulky and it's easy to travel with, so I've been taking it to the pool now that it's finally getting warmer.

Check them out online www.chicbuds.com and order one for mom For May 11th (Don't Forget Mother's Day)!
